Wilderness Skills Apprenticeships
Ancestral Knowledge’s Wilderness Skills Apprenticeship program is an in-depth hands-on study of ancient skills. This program is designed for those who want to learn the science of tracking, awareness, and primitive skills required to live in the old-ways.
Self Bow Building Workshop
The Bow Building Workshop engages the participants in the ancient fine art of bow making; learning to delicately carve and shape a single piece of wood into a beautiful and efficient survival tool. This is a five day long workshop where you will experience the complete process of bow making.
Fire by Friction Workshop
During this workshop you will create your very own bow drill fire making kit. We will teach you how to make rope with natural fibers found in plants that grow locally in our region. You will learn proper material identification and selection, proper fire structures, and tinder collection. We will also teach several other fire making techniques including; Hand drill, pump drill, and the fire saw.
Arrow Making Workshop
This weekend workshop teaches the complete process of primitive arrow making from harvesting your own shafts to testing spine weight. Two methods of arrow straightening will be covered and you will learn how to make pine pitch adhesive and process sinew for fletching and hafting.
Wisdom of the Woods Day Camp
During this week we will guide you through the skills you will need for long term adventures into the wilderness, whether locally or abroad. During this exciting week of discovery you will learn the following skills; Fire by Friction, Survival Shelters, Animal Tracking, Hunting and Trapping, Wilderness Awareness, Pottery, and Caretaking of the Earth.
Wild Edibles and Useful Plant Workshop
This is a guided walk through different habitats, identifying, collecting and frequent sampling wild plant foods. Course will cover approximately 40 plants, shrubs and trees. We will cover proper identification and use of these plants, whether plants are native or introduced, when and where to safely collect plants and conservation techniques.
Flint Knapping Workshop
Our Flint Knapping class we will you back in time – learning the ancient skills of stone tool making. We will teach you the proper forms and techniques to knap, 7 stages of reduction including spalling, percussion flaking, and bi-facing, and the more advanced techniques of pressure flaking, sharpening and notching.
Wilderness Experience Camp
During this 5 day 4 night program everyone will build there own friction fire kit, learn how to cook over an open fire, build a survival shelter, and truly wander without time or destination. The campers are guided through mock survival experiences and games that allow them to overcome fears of failure and give them the confidence they need to survive.
Earth Skills Camp
Our Earth Skills program provides the next step in wilderness survival skills. This program teaches the ancient skills that our ancestors used in their daily lives. Wilderness Survival Weekend
Our wilderness survival program gives you the opportunity to learn how to provide yourself with the basic needs to stay alive in any survival situation. Whether lost, stranded, or in a state of emergency, our program will fill the void of ignorance when it comes to taking care of yourself, friends, and family.
Overnight Experience
The Overnight Experience is a two day one night camp out. While participating in this program the participants will learn how to blend and flow with nature, hone their awareness skills, and learn about the natural world.
