Schools and Groups
Ancestral Knowledge has several program opportunities to offer Public and Private schools, Home School Groups, and organizations like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. We custom design presentations and field trips, mentoring programs and hands-on workshops at a reasonable cost.
Our College programs are designed to take the average outdoor enthusiast to a whole new level of appreciation of nature. Whether your an avid hiker, camper, or an all out gear head we will show you the things in the outdoors that you wish you knew years ago, all the while teaching the skills it takes to survive in any situation you could find yourself in. Our program is designed to teach our participants how to provide shelter, water, fire, and food if they become stranded or separated from their gear. We will also put our students in touch with a way of life that was once familiar to us all. Some of the skills you will learn during these programs are; Fire by friction, survival shelters, animal tracking, trapping, aidless navigation, basic stone tool production, edible plants, primitive cooking techniques, and much more.
Our Presentations
are a one of a kind combination of natural displays and primitive survival skills demonstrations. Our
displays include handcrafted primitive tools such as; bows and arrows, natural
baskets, utensils, cordage, fire making kits, stone tools, clothing and much
more. Many details of the Hunter-Gatherer cultures are introduced and
discussed. Our presentation is very student interactive as we pass around many
primitive tools and natural materials for discussion and investigation, at the
same time engaging them in a question and answer session about each item.
Finally we stimulate the students’ ancestral knowledge by involving
volunteers in a primitive skill, like a fire by friction demonstration in which
we recreate the magic of primitive fire as if discovered for the first
time thousands of years ago.

Our mentoring program is designed to use nature observation, awareness and earth based skills to open up a new world of adventure, self-reliance, and the passion to learn without the students realizing they are being taught. Our intention is to open the mind, body, and spirit of our students to our earth’s delicate environment and ecosystems in which they live every day of their lives. We have a flexible curriculum that hinges on the basic four skills of survival: shelter, water, fire, and food. This gives us the opportunity to read our students individually and as a group, in order to lead them in the most suitable direction to meet their needs at an appropriate pace. Our
Weekend / Weeklong
Skills Workshops
are designed for those students who want to participate in
an intense study of a particular topic. We offer workshops for both adults and
children on topics such as; bow and arrow production, primitive pottery, hide
tanning, wild edible gourmet, stone tool production, and several wilderness and
emergency survival courses. These courses are unique, informative, and
hands-on.
